I am doing bird photography. I am very happy with my Canon EF 400mm f4 DO IS ii in combination with Extender EF 1.4x iii and EF 2x iii. I am considering an upgrade of my Canon 7D ii and see only the Canon R5 as an upgrade option. My question is if anyone has experience or has read about others' experiences with the combination R5 and EF 400mm

The Canon EOS 2000D produced images of good quality during the review period. This camera produces noise-free images at ISO 100 up to ISO 800, with some noise appearing at ISO 1600. The faster setting of ISO 3200 is still usable, although we'd suggest avoiding ISO 6400 and especially 12800 if possible.

The 300 f/2.8 IS performs better with the Canon EF 1.4x II Extender and the Canon EF 2x II Extender than most if not all other Canon lenses. Adding the 1.4x creates a 420mm f/4.0 IS lens - a very nice focal length and max aperture - and yes, IS still functions with the extenders installed.

I tested three lenses: the new Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM, the original Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS USM, and, because people will ask, the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM attached to a Canon Extender EF 2X Mark III. They were tested at full telephoto, which should be 400mm.
