My 3.0 gets about 14-16mpg in the city and up to 26mpg on the highway (it take lots of practice and patient-keeping it between 55mph and 60mph to get this number). Otherwise, it's about 22mpg on the highway doing about 80mph. Note that I'm rolling on OEM 19" wheels/tires.
3 posts · Joined 2011. #10 · Dec 26, 2020. I have the 2008 BMW X5 3.0si with the n52 which they amped it up to 260hp, compared to my 2008 528xi n52 3.0 with 230hp. The Si does stand for sport which just has the higher compression putting out the extra hp. D.

The twin--turbo diesel X5 is the best yet, sealing its postion at the top of the class. BMW's facelifts are always a question of subtle nips and tucks rather than major operations. The cosmetic differences to the new BMW X5 are therefore quite limited with front and rear treatments that are neat evolutions of their predecessor's. The tail end I think both issues contribute to my belief that the E53 X5 has lower build quality, is less reliable and requires more proactive maintenance and repair than the European-made BMWS of a similar vintage (E39/E46 and even E83 (x3)) I own and drive an '05 X5 and recently sold an "06both with the durable M54 3.0 6 cyl engine.

Going from D to SD at city speeds (25-40 mph), I felt the very slightest of jump in RPM but was not watching the tachometer. At expressway speed (55-65mpg), I did not feel any lurch or higher rev - it was smooth switching from D to SD. BwqCPyb.
