Go to hidden kombi menu. Monitorize fuel consumption (L/h) menu 04.01. Check the fuel consumption with the snowflake button on and off (set the temp to the low value first) If there is a noticeable change on the consumption (from 0.7 to 1.3l /h approx) your compressor will be apparently ok and the gas too.
It appears in this car when that happens, all the vents get closed to cycle air through the condenser to thaw it back out. Just keep your intensity higher (or far right) or the fan higher in manual mode, and it should be fine. The usual cause is a system that lacks sufficient capacity.
Yes, thermostat is sticking, replace it. If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes.

The centre vent is set to cold, the temperature on both sides is set to 16c. The temperature out of the upper and lower vents is hotter than the centre vents. With the AC on max, fan speed at its highest
If the car has sat in the sun on a hot day for more than a few hours, the AC will not blow cold after startup. It can take anywhere from 10-20 minutes for the AC to start blowing cold again. Once the AC starts blowing cold, it will stay blowing cold pretty much indefinitely until the car has sat for multiple hours again. Things I've diagnosed:
Going on down to the "Evaporator Control (compressor control)" section shows this: ON:A/C button ON and evaporator temperature > 4°C (depending on the outside temperature) and coolant temperature < 117°C and terminal 30 at control unit > 9.7 Volt. See more. Reply Quote. As of this morning, my '09 E92 AC no longer blows cold air. (worked fine last night). Ambient air on max cold, but can adjust to hot air (i.e. max heater). The up/forward/down vent settings work. Just no cold air. I did some research, and there are three common causes I've seen. 1.) Schraeder valve 2.) Evaporator 3.) Compressor

To troubleshoot, clamp one of the two hoses attached to the valve, doesn't matter which one (vise grips work nicely), run the a/c.. If it gets cold the valve is stuck
Symptoms are as follows; The system was blowing warm air at any temperature setting even thought the charge is OK. I disconnected the heater control valves and now the air blows cold. The Auxiliary Fan comes on after about 3-4 minutes with the compressor running but runs at erratic speeds at first then only runs on high. Sounds like an airplane. Ou7DIZY.
